The high-end Z-series of Sony Vaio laptops has its fans, but with prices starting at US$1,899 and going to over US$3,000, it's out of the price range of most laptop shoppers. The Vaio S series aims to offer a stylish 13-inch Vaio at much more competitive prices.

Sony says the S series offers, "easy portability and long battery life, perfect for the tech-savvy student or mobile professional," and it's certainly a bit lighter than some other 13-inch systems in the same general price range, at 2kg and only 25.4mm thick.


The VAIO S delivers Intel Wireless Display technology for wirelessly streaming video content to your HDTV. Sony was also kind enough to add a LED-backlit keyboard to make it easier to type in dark environments.
Pricing for the VAIO S starts at $900.

Sony has unveiled the new Sony VAIO F Series laptop that 3D technology includes comfortable, 3D active glasses that unleash a jaw-dropping 3D experience, you can even convert 2D HD video into 3D in real time with a push of the 3D button.

The Sony VAIO F Series laptop features a 120Hz Full HD LED-backlit display with a 1920 x 1080 resolution, powerful second-gen processor power, NVIDIA graphics, up to 8GB of RAM and a 7200rpm hard drive or solid state drive, a Blu-ray combo drive, an S-Force Front Surround 3D system, and a HDMI output, and runs Windows 7 Home Premium.

The VAIO F uses a quad-core Intel Core i7 processor and dedicated NVIDIA GeForce graphics with 1 GB of dedicated video memory for solid multimedia performance.
Pricing for the VAIO F starts at $1,700.

Sony VAIO YB Series:

The Sony YB series laptop has a 11.6-inch form factor and sports the new AMD Fusion "Zacate" E-350 processor, with DirectX 11 compatible integrated graphics and full-HD 1080p support. The VAIO YB can support up to 4GB of RAM, according to Sony, and has an HDMI port. Sony claims the new VAIO YB ultraportable has long batterty life, but didn't speak about any concrete number. The VAIO YB series starts at US $550 right now, undercutting the 11-inch MacBook Air in the process.

Using the AMD dual-core E-350 APU with AMD Mobility Radeon HD 6310 graphics, the VAIO YB delivers fast performance and picture-perfect HD video playback for a fraction of the cost you might expect from a notebook like this.
Pricing for the VAIO YB starts at $550.
