New Macbook Pro Thunderbolt technology Intel’s new data transfer technology, Thunderbolt Interconnect is expected to make a large splash with Apple’s release of the new line of Macbook Pro laptop computers.
Intel recently released several long awaited details on one of their newest technologies, known as Thunderbolt Interconnect. The technology, which was first mentioned in 2009, will have the ability to transfer data between a number of devices using speeds that will range up to ten gigabits per second. Another key note is that Thunderbolt will have the capabilities to transfer HD movies to various devices in as little as 30 seconds.
This compares to USB 3.0's 4Gbps, the 800Mbps offered by Firewire 800 and USB 2.0's 480Mbps. However, Intel has stated that it does not intend Thunderbolt to be a replacement to USB 3.0 -- which is struggling to gain a foothold in the market -- but a complementary technology. Initially, it is aimed at audio and video professionals and enthusiasts.
